Chris Matthews: ‘I forgot [Barack Obama] was black tonight for an hour.’
Via Ed Morrissey. Even though I stayed away from watching the State of the Union last night and didn’t even watch any of the coverage afterward, I still heard something about a comment by Chris Matthews on Obama’s blackness or him forgetting about it or something. I just watched the video and now I get the ongoing brouhaha over his comment. He said he forgot that Obama was black for a moment there, as some sort of compliment to him. Like, dude, he actually said this.
Whatever, no surprise here. White lefties are obsessed with race and always will be. That’s a known thing. This is the way they compliment black people, by alluding to their lack of blackness. Remember Harry Reid’s “Negro dialect” moment?
One of their biggest nightmares is a truly post-racial America. They view the President, and other minorities, as purely racial beings, nothing more. And they can’t get over the fact that most Americans, especially conservatives, don’t care one iota about Obama’s race. I like how Jonah Golderg put it:
Personally, I think Chris Matthews’ momentary colorblindness offers a telling insight. As many of us have argued around here for a while, conservatives aren’t obsessed with Obama’s race, liberals are. That’s why we’ve had so many asinine, nasty and ignorant charges of racism hurled at Obama’s critics. There’s a certain species of liberal that can’t get over Obama’s race. They assume that conservatives can’t get over it either and so criticism of Obama from the right must — according to Olbermannesque thinking — stem from some evil desire to see a “black man fail” or some other idiocy. I think it’s nice that we have a black president as do most conservatives I know. I just don’t think it’s the most important thing in the world. Nor do I think that his blackness makes bad liberal ideas suddenly good. Black men are wrong when they say 2+2 is 5 too.
Unlike Chris Matthews, I go weeks, even months, without “remembering” that Obama is black. It’s just not a big part of how I see the world or his day-to-day presidency. It is a big part of how Matthews sees things. I leave it to others to decide whose outlook is healthier.
Always remember: These race-obsessed buffoons are the same ones who are constantly harping about other people’s latent and blatant racism. It’s all projection, baby.
You are lucky you didnt watch it. I for some reason did… I did a lot of yelling at the TV last night. The one thing that really got me was when he was talking about him creating over 200,000 jobs in the construction industry. Well… I work in that industry and EVERYONE in it knows, right now, it is at a 25% to 27% lay off rate Nation wide, which is the highest it has been in a long time! The company I work for usually has over 230 people working for it, and right now we are under 130. Where are these jobs?! Everyone is figthing for ever single bid in this industry. Sad thing is, so many Americans probably believed him…
